Sieves


Sieves for pharmacopoeial testing are

  1. made of wire cloth woven from brass, bronze, stainless steel or other suitable wire, and


  2. are not coated or plated.


  3. The wires are of uniform circular cross-section.


  4. There must be no reaction between the material of the sieves and the substance being sifted.


Sieve Number is the number of meshes in a length of 2.54 cm in each transverse direction parallel to the wires.
